Pre-service Program at NCGLEA


The Pre-service Program provides Basic Law Enforcement Training to individuals who are interested in a law enforcement career, but are not employed by a law enforcement agency. The Basic Law Enforcement Trianing Course is a 408 hour course that runs Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for 10 consecutive weeks. Under the Pre-service program students will attend the North Central Georgia Law Enforcement Academy at their own expense. As an applicant there are several cost you will incur during the application process that are non-refundable. There will be a $150 application fee due to the academy prior to starting your application. This fee is for your application process. If you are accepted into the academy, you will be reimbursed the application fee ($150) on the first day of class and upon payment of tuition.


Listed are the qualifications to be accepted into the Pre-service Program at the North Central Georgia Law Enforcement Academy:

• Natural born or naturalized citizen of the Unites States of America;
• At least 21 years of age;
• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED);
• Pass the P.O.S.T. Academy Entrance Exam (fee);
• Meet all other P.O.S.T. requirements for certification as a Georgia peace officer;
• Successfully complete a psychological assessment by a NCGLEA appointed agency (fee);
• Successfully complete a polygraph examination by a NCGLEA appointed agency (fee);
• Successfully complete background investigation by a NCGLEA appointed agency (fee);
• Successfully complete a criminal history and driver’s history review by the Cobb County Sheriff's Office (fee);
• Successfully pass the POST Application Process (fee);
• Provide proof of medical insurance and the possession of a valid GA driver’s license prior to the first day of class.


If you meet the above requirements and are accepted into the Pre-service Program you will be enrolled in a 408 hour Basic Law Enforcement
Training Course. While attending this course you will be required to complete the following:

• The Emergency Vehicle Operations Course
• Defensive Tactics Course
• Firearms Training Course (for the Firearms portion of the course you may bring your personal 9mm, .40 cal, or .45 cal firearm and it must be pre-approved by the academy prior to use on the range. If you do not have your own, the academy will supply you with one. NO FIREARMS ARE ALLOWED AT THE ACADEMY UNTIL THE DAY OF FIREARMS TRAINING. Ammunition will be supplied by the academy to all students; no live ammunition is to be brought to the academy at any time.)
• Several academic exams and performance evaluations pertaining to the GA POST Basic Law Enforcement Training Course curriculum.


If you are accepted into the Academy’s Basic Training Course, your tuition will be due, in full on the first day of class. The total tuition fee is $3,093.00 and is non-refundable for any reason should you not complete the Pre-service program.


There are several steps and fees associated with applying to the Pre-service program. Please make sure that you are still interested in applying and that you are willing to pay all cost associated with the Pre-service program. All fees pertaining to the application process are non-refundable if for any reason you should not be accepted into the Pre-service Program at North Central Georgia Law Enforcement Academy. Please note that to become fully certified after completing the Pre-service Program; you must be hired by a Georgia law enforcement agency within three (3) years of the date of your initial Pre-service application.

To begin the application process for the Pre-service Program you will need to call NCGLEA at 770-499-5080 and request to have your name put on the list of pre-service applicants. A date will be set for a group meeting with the Director to which you will be called to attend. Any questions you may have will be addressed at this meeting. At this time you will receive your application packet for a fee of $150. (certified check, money order or exact cash) Please note that this application process may take 2 to 3 months for completion.
